WELCOME TO POZE:
A MUSICAL BIOGRAPHY BASED ON A TRUE STORY!
By: Veronica Singleton Ph.D., M.Ed
Sixteen years ago Poze started his musical career as an Urban/Freestyle Recording Artist. Who would have known? That here lived a man who after sixteen years of contributing freely to this genre, is finally now ready to cross-over. :)
Poze was first discovered by CPR Jose Ortiz at 103.5 F.M. at Holyoke Community College Radio Station where he was formerly introduced to CPR by his family member Joey "Danger" Altura. Both Mr. Altura and Poze were known as "RX-Drums" at the time. A few weeks later after meeting CPR Jose Ortiz he introduced Poze to Michael Lunn where he was signed at one time under this management contract.
Poze was then introduced to Willie Valentin from NYC, and he was asked to audition for Mr. Valentin over the phone. After that audition Poze was asked to come down to NYC to sign a record deal with Artistik Recordings. In 1995 Poze releases his first song called "It's Not Over till It's Over" under Mic Mac Records. Soon after that, his musical career as an Urban/Freestyle Recording Artist took flight.
Several years later, having been in over 5 Artistik Parade compilations, Artistik Recordings released an entire self entitled album "Poze" that took 10 years in the making, by Producer Willie Valentin. The album featured all of Poze's old songs, and new songs were added to the list, along with a mega-mix edited by Producer and Editor Freddy "The Edit" Rivera. Talk about variety.
In 1996, Poze was licensed in Canada with the song "The Moment" written by: Joey "Danger" Altura, Australia has also licensed a song from Poze, and his music crossed overseas, this has proven that he can, thanks to good people in this man's life. However, I guess its not enough in other people's minds. LOL...Currently Poze has a huge fan base in Brazil, South America. As sound travels, so will this man's voice be heard as far as it can reach.
Poze has worked with such Producer's as: Willie Valentin, Freddy "The Edit" Rivera, Joey "Danger" Altura, Edwin Ramos, Quest Star, Jimmy Fingers, Lou Alba, Dexter Redding, Lucho Cabarcas, Josue (Paper City Productions), Don Chito (First Step Productions), Ozzie CT-Music, to name a few.
Poze has met and worked with members of the David Maldonado Crew (NYC) on various musical projects. Including having written for Sujelee Sola' from Hartford CT, in which he enjoyed very much.
Poze had the opportunity to be featured along with Willie Valentin and George Anthony (Jorge Luis) in a song remixed by Tony Moran "Oye" Sung By Gloria Estefan. An experience he didn't forget.
Poze has come a long way, from being the Best Male Vocalist in 1996, and having two number one songs of the year 1995-1996, since then Poze was labeled as the most under rated Freestyle Recording Artist of all time, and currently, the Number One New England Freestyle Recording Artist on CPR's Countdown 2010.
Poze has worked with Producer and Editor Freddy "The Edit" Rivera and appeared courtesy of Artistik Recordings and featured in two compilations for Digital Genesis Records NYC. He is currently working with Freddy "The Edit" Rivera at many different levels. Poze will eventually be venturing into other genres of music, and he will deliver the same caliber of music as he did for urban/Freestyle Music respectfully.
Poze has written countless songs that have never before been heard of. Only two songs were released as testers, "Do You Really Wanna" and "Freestyle Will Never Die." Poze's fans didn't mind, they still accepted both songs, and supported them.
Poze currently continues to perform at different clubs, lounges, and concert events throughout New England, and the Tri-state area, but he is not limited to travel to other parts of the country, and out of the country if need be. His songs have hit number one throughout college radio and internet radio stations, in addition, Poze's music was also played on commercial radio stations in NYC. His efforts continue to engage him into doing more with his multi-talented self.
Poze has always been vocally trained. Starting with his Mother who decided to teach him how to sing. Poze was always surrounded by music, and influenced by both his parents. Soon after, Poze's parents knew that there was a purpose, they were right. I will never ever forget when I went to a Poze concert a few years ago, where Recording Artist Freeze put together this concert.
This particular concert was full house, and that night while Poze was on stage, Freeze and his crew brought Poze's Mother to see her son, and what that crowd and I witnessed was this man's Mother in tears, literally. Everyone saw how proud she was watching her son sing on stage for the first time. Touching! was when they both hugged each other, the support was heart felt.
Poze's talent didn't stop there, he participated in five theatrical plays while he was an undergraduate student at Holyoke Community College. He continues to work with many other Recording Artists from all cultures and genres of music. He loves Classical music and dreams of becoming an Opera Singer/Performer at some point in his life.
Poze's biggest Urban/Freestyle inspirations are: Judy Torres, Brenda K. Star, Tony Moran, George LaMond, Willie Valentin, Synthia Figueroa, Sammy Zone, George Anthony, Angel (Clear Touch), Angel/Julio Mena, Marisol, Lorenzo D'Lan, Wendy, Pain and Nick Colon.
Poze's biggest Urban/Freestyle Writers: Micheal Bertot, Sammy Zone, Joey "Danger" Altura and Benny Beats (Kane), and Papo (Formerly Director to the Salsa group Orchesta La Perfecta).
Poze is currently a Graduate Student and working on a Masters Degree in Social Work/Juris Doctorate in Law. In 2006 Poze has earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Science, from Holyoke Community College. In 2008 he earned a Bachelor Degree from Westfield State University, all in the State of Massachusetts.
Amongst other things, this man is into many different sports and with that being said, he shared that if he ever had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at any championship game in the near future, he would!
Poze has contributed his singing abilities by volunteering his time recording backgrounds for other fellow recording artists, and has written many songs in the process. Poze has always been open to new ideas and working along side his musical peers, and likes to be challenged. Poze has stood out as a hard working, individual who understands the demands of music, and the work that it expects from him as "Delivering Beyond his Own Expectations." I wonder how can someone rewrite what is already perfect? Poze is one of many other singers who knows how this fees like.
Poze never said no to many musical projects, and performances, yet if he ever did say no to one or even disagreed participating in a particular, its because he found that it wasn't meant for him, and he simply gave it up to someone who could be capable and deserved a chance. Poze has an array of great projects in the works. There are videos, new musical material, acting opportunities, new photographs and a chance to reinvent himself for years to come.
Poze will always continue to give us his all in every song that he focuses on. Among his many works in Urban/Freestyle this man is capable of so much more. He can sing to almost anything, at any style, at any level, in any genre music has to offer. Weather its Pop, Jazz, Opera, Soul, Gospel, in many different languages. I guarantee that once you hand any music material to him, he practices, and rehearses painstakingly until he gets it, and the end result is delivered through the gift God gave him.
Poze has learned to adjust to changes, and in the recording studio it shows. However, it wasn't all that simple for him. He recalls at first how unpleasant it was for him to adjust to a different recording styles. In the studio he shared how hard Mr. Valentin was with him. None-the-less, if Mr. Valentin was not hard on him, believing in Poze's potential, then Poze would have never developed into the singing angel he is today.
At this point, Poze knew no boundaries and had no limitations, no exceptions and hardly ever settled for less. His performances are not that far behind, he likes to take control of the stage, and he does it accordingly. If you ever capture Poze in a club this man is almost always alone, and you would think that he is just hanging out, quite the contrary, he is practicing and rehearsing what he is about to perform. Preparation to this man is vital, and he hardly speaks before he gets on the stage.
Poze developed into a Professional Recording Artist, but has maintained his professionalism humbled, and simple. His attitude and his love for music will die with him. He is easy going, and smiles even in turbulent times, which is quite uncommon. He views himself as a person who likes to enjoy life. Its difficult to try to understand this man, yet if you look at many great composers, singers, artists, writers past and current, they didn't have it easy either, however they became legendary because they brought it, and so will Poze.
Poze's melodies and smooth soulful, but aggressive voice gives you the essence of rough and tough vs smooth and simple and switched unexpectedly. Every song brings an emotional different feel that enlightens one to just listen. Poze has always maintained a responsible attitude in everything he puts his mind in. Although he is always by himself, he hardly ever likes to share his private life with his counterparts. Yet, he has always maintained respect for other people.
Poze will always continue to bring good quality material, but most of all, his friendly personality will continue to capture your interests in his gift(s). He will continue to bring to us all that is, what was and still continues to be, all captured in every song he records. Even though he's been through a series of changes throughout his entire life, he continues to press on, and express himself in so many ways, at many levels.
Singing is not the only talent this man carries, he is a painter (fantasy, graffiti, and landscape artist), an actor, a poet, a stage designer, a stage set maker/builder, songwriter, teacher. This man was born with a purpose, so creative. Poze has been writing a book about his life entitled "Who Cares." He shard at one time that he wanted to leave a legacy for his family to remind them of who he was on Earth. He loves his family, and his real teachers were all of the people God allowed into his life.
Poze has also been known for his sense of humor and funny ways. He's been known to be a clown, doing crazy things with his face, and body, and making you laugh out of no where. His spontaneous outbursts of languages and voices has people wondering if he he is an alien or something out of this world, over-all he is just funny, and you will be able to enjoy his presence. Believe me I know, he is just too funny.
Poze recalls a time in his life where he struggled with his identity, and he remembers clearly that that has always been the center of his struggles. In one of the chapters of his soon expected book release, He shared that as a child he was made fun of, and throughout High School he struggled the most.
My sources tell me that, as an adult he still feels as though he has to struggle with the same issues which continue to haunt him since his childhood. This man has maintained himself like a soldier, and marched forward. Yet, he continues to provide us with songs that reflect some of the things he had to endure throughout his lifetime. Pay close attention to the lyrics of each song, you'll find out more than what you think.
Poze's songs will continue to inspire many of his loyal fans, but he sure misses his Mother. He shared with me something special, he said: "Even though I still have so much more to accomplish here, one day I will look forward to meeting my creator, and embrace into my Mother's arms again."
At this point, I was beside myself, and I was truly amazed at the amount of endurance, strength, patience, perseverance, and stamina it may have taken this man to endure such pain, criticism, failed judgments, struggles, challenges, gossip beyond measure, and god knows what else.
Throughout his life he found his identity, his belonging, and his place in life.
My advice, if you don't know this man, give yourself the opportunity to hangout with him, at least one day. When you do you will agree with me that he is an amazing individual who you can learn so much from, and I learned plenty in my short time with him. I know, I was a friend of his parent's, and I was his Mentor, and Tutor in college. He was born with a purpose, and he will not be allowed to leave us until his purpose is accomplished, that much I know.
Its an inspiration just listening to him speak. We would engage in so many conversations, and he would talk about his family, friends, and his music career. That's how I was able to gather so much information, from many sources, and the source himself. Granted it took much thought piecing the puzzle together, but I decided to give him a gift he deserved, his own bio.
This man has so much to give to the world, and I'm sure that he will surely be remembered, for a long time to come.
@Poze: This was my New Years gift to you. It was a pleasure writing your Musical Biography, thank you for giving me the opportunity and permission to write just a glimpse of your life, and share it with your fans. Don't you ever give up! Never! Your Mother, is so proud of you, and God has always been there with you, ALWAYS!
So what! If you didn't get a Gold, or a Platinum record, made it in a Billboard chart, or what have you. What I saw in you had more value than all of those things put together. Poze your PERSONALITY is priceless, its who you are, and the beauty that resonates from inside you, that's what people will always remember about you. Somebody up there and down here must really love you, and you have no idea how many.
Thank You Poze and continue doing what your doing, your on the right track. :)
I wrote something you told me along time ago, remember these words? "Without Love there is no Peace, and without peace there is no life." "Never give up, have faith in every situation and always be humble, sincere, and yourself to the people who are as unique as you are." (Cotton, 2010).
Thank You
Sincerely Yours!
